#besmartaboutart networking is a monthly opportunity to meet artists, curators & other peers, to view exhibitions and spaces, and to expand knowledge - creative and professional alike.
In August 2017, we’re embarking upon a special summer soirée visit to the beautiful Royal Over-Seas League clubhouse in Green Park, for the ‘Young Masters’ exhibition presented by Cynthia Corbett Gallery.
This exhibition celebrates artists who pay homage to the skill and traditions of the past. Many entrants of the Young Masters prize competition, past and present, will be exhibited and boast variety in medium and subject as well as artists varying in age and experience. Sitting alongside these works will be the work of more established talent represented by the Cynthia Corbett Gallery and exhibited internationally, further adding to the diversity of the work on show. The exhibition will offer new works of contemporary art that take inspiration from the past, displayed in the grand setting of the historic clubhouse at The Royal Over-Seas League.
The Royal Over-Seas League is dedicated to championing international friendship and understanding throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. A non-profit private members’ club with clubhouses in London and Edinburgh, it offers its 16,000 members an opportunity to get involved in all kinds of social, cultural and humanitarian activities around the world. It aims at ‘promoting an enduring multi-racial fellowship pledged to the support of the Commonwealth and to the services of others and humanity at large.’
About the Event:
With arrivals starting at 6.30pm, all attendees will be invited to browse the exhibition as well as talk with fellow visitors as well as Royal Over-Seas League arts programme staff and BSAA's very own Susan Mumford. Approximately half way through the event, Susan will facilitate a Q+A with ROSL Arts Co-Ordinator, Eilidh McCormick providing insight into the exhibition, larger gallery programme and the fascinating subject of the skills and traditions of the past influencing contemporary art. As a summer special, Susan will be taking three lessons learned inside the art world that are presented in our book, Art is your life, Make it your living, and will present these stories in a participatory conversation with attendees. And last but not least, three top networking tips for the art world (noting that your network is key to success!) will be delivered by Be Smart About Art. The event will finish at 8.30pm.
Note that arrivals are welcome at anytime during the event, between 6.30-8.30pm.
